Is it just the graduates I know who don't ever intend paying off their student loan or is it a widespread goal?
To be honest, just us graduates.

It's not about it being a widespread goal, just that we can't control how much we pay back so it's always too little to make a proper impact.
It annoys me so much having this deducted (almost as much as having pension being taken out) but it stopped me having to save every penny I earned during the A-Levels (and the resulting years it would've taken after) to pay my way through.
So I'll just have to grin and bare it! Debt Free since July 2011 and it feels good!
Now it's all about finding a deposit for a house!
How do you amass £70k in a year?! :eek:0 -
With the amount of interest they throw on it's just not worth paying more than what they take each month.
They, student loan company, can just take what they are legally allowed to take.
Not breaking the law. :j

It's not as if graduates can control how much they pay back - if they earn above £15k then they repay, otherwise they don't.
If the government isn't breaking even on the SLC then it's likely to be because the repayment threshold wasn't calibrated correctly in the first instance. Either that, or graduates aren't earning as much as was projected - which highlights how a degree may not be as financially valuable as people think!
Either way, the 'debtors' for that purpose can't do anything.0
