Please beware of Fairprice Software!

I just wanted to warn people about buying stuff from http://fairpricesoftware.co.uk/. I bought a download of Kaspersky Internet Security from them. It was a little bit cheaper than from the main Kaspersky site. I downloaded it and everything was fine. Then, a few weeks later, a message came up from Kaspersky blocking the programme as the licence was illegal. After a load of hassle, it seems that the licence from Fairprice Software is illegal. They give out the licence to multiple users. I have had problems contacting Fairprice Software as they do not answer their emails at all. They don't have a phone number (guess I should have checked that), and only have online chat. When I talked to someone on that chat room, they said they would sort the problem out. Nothing since then!

I will now try to get my money back from the credit card company, with all the hassle that entails. The lesson I've learnt is that not all bargains are what they appear to be. I will get Kaspersky from their own shop next time.

Hope this helps other people.

The site was registered in May 2009 and is based in Singapore so I'm not surprised you got burnt.

The big give aways on their website are: no contact address, no contact phone number and the statement that all prices are in GBP. If it was a British site there would be no need to put that..

Can I suggest that in future when you want to buy from a potentially cheap website that you do a Whois lookup as I have just done.

Also if you use Firefox as your browser I would suggest you get the Web Of Trust add-on which gives sites ratings one of which is on trustworthiness.

  • Thanks for the advice. Will check on things more carefully next time. I was so stupid this time. Luckily, not too much money.
