Hi all,
Me and hubby are really struggling this year so much so we didnt know where this months money for morg was coming from !, Hes self employed and business has been slow these last few months
SO trying to money save i decided i would only buy "special" cards for hubby, mum&dad, nannan and everyone else would get a generic one.
I phoned my mother earlier to let her know and i got the impression that she thought i was being tight , see money has never been a prob for us and before when i said i was skint i would still have a few grand in bank lol, but now we are 100% properly skint (if that makes sense)
I get the feeling my mum thinks im laying it on, i told her earlier what brought for my aunt and she said "oh ill buy u something else to go with it to give to her" and i said no cos im setting smething off then they will expect every year she doesnt understand why im being like this.
sorry rant over

I never bother with 'special' cards for anyone - everyone gets the generic ones. I think the special ones are a rip off. Instead I take the time to write a special note to people showing that you care but in a different way.
As for the gifts you choose to give people - surely that's your own business and doesn't need the approval of anyone else. I always feel that if people don't like the present I give them, then it's more of a reflection of them rather than my gift. Lack of gratitude for a gift, even if it is a small one or one you don't particularly like, is not very 'Christmas Spirit'. I hope everyone will love the gifts you buy and they may not even notice that you are only sending 'generic' cards - if they do... so what?0 -
I only buy 'special' cards for my parents from us and boys (a mum and dad and a nana and granda one) and my aunt. Everyone else gets normal cards! Thats always the way Ive done it so I dont think you are being unreasonable at all.Bringing up 2 handsome boys and 1 gorgeous girl the MSE way!Joseph born 19th December 2001Matthew born 8th August 2007Tara born 23rd January 20110

My family always give special cards, I have decided over the last few years not to bother. They really are such a waste of money.
If you have time, make one if that is so important for them to see a Mum and Dad card on the fire place, but for me I have no spare time, and they will be given the nicest looking ones from the box of cards I have.
Don't take it all to heart, traditions are set by people, they are enforced on others, and it is up to us to decide what it is we will take part in and what we won't. The good old transition from the parents!0
