Hello
It's been a long time since I've looked after children below the age of 10 - but I have been looking after the little girl next door (moved in about a year ago) for half an hour a couple of times a week when her mum has to get into work and her dad's running late sort of every other week. I don't want to buy an actual Christmas present as you get into many minefields then with what they have/like etc, but I would like to get her a little something to keep her entertained and I'm sort of thinking a magazine and a selection box/bag of sweets.
Do any of you buy magazines for your kids and which would you recommend or stay away from. Would rather not buy Barbie and stuff as it's for a sort of select type of girl and I've no idea if she likes Barbie. I'm thinking something like CBBC or something if they do them as I thought they'd be educational and have craft bits in them as she likes making stuff and drawing. (I was going to get her some bits to do craft but she has them by the bucketload).
So - the short version of what I'm trying to say is please could you reccomend some of the better magazines!
Do they do Christmas versions and stuff?
She's just turned 7 and is a girly girly if it helps. Thanks

Theirs Disney Princess magazine. From what I remember it's mainly stories with a few activity pages. Theirs also a pet one with stories and articles and plenty of cute animal pictures.0

Thanks very much
do you happen to know how much it is and if it's weekly/monthly etc? No worries if not - will check it out a bit nearer the time when we get to the supermarket. Thanks again

My DD is 7 and is fond of Animals and You, a pink girly magazine about pets. It's every 3 weeks I think.0

Me and DS (he's 4) LOVE Charlie and Lola, think it's out every two weeks (I love it more than him) it's a great magazine and usually comes with a great selection of crafty bits which entertain him for ages.:hello:

Thanks very much guys
I didn't want to buy a naff one as I remember when I was younger I always avoided Shout as it was more adverts/crap stories etc so I wanted to get a view of those who'd know. Thanks again!0 -
Hiya, theres loads of kiddy magazines out there, most are available on subscription, like these below.
Childrens Magazines, or Childrens Magazine theres loads and loads there.
Best ones are In The Night Garden Magazine , Pink Magazine
Also, theres this one too0 -
I buy my 4 year old the cbeebies art mag. Its £2.75 and is out monthly. Even though shes the activities in it would definently suit a 7 year old as I have to help her with most of it. A xmas edition came out on Wednesday.:santa2::xmastree::santa2:0

I think a couple of the magazines that have been mentioned are too young for most 7 year olds. Whilst Charlie and Lola is very cool (I love the illustration), I think she might feel too old for it. There is a huge difference in being 4 and 7, even if it is the thought that counts.
It's a tricky age group for magazines (I have an 8 year old). I recommend National Geographic Kids, followed by Animals and You. Art Attack maybe; I haven't seen one for ages. The Beano is also good, but not top of my list for a girly girl. NG Kids is the best suited IMO, if Barbie/Princesses are out.0 -
