Details of the Elmwood chickens here.
What is the Elmwood standard?
• Elmwood chickens are housed in naturally ventilated and sunlit barns
giving a fresher, brighter more comfortable environment.
• They’re given more space than standard reared chickens.
• Barns are furnished with straw bales, perches and pecking objects to
keep the birds stimulated.
• Elmwood chickens grow more slowly with a naturally balanced, high cereal,
vegetarian diet
Slightly better than the cramped minimum standard chickens, but a still a far cry from free-range or organic.
It's only a game

I was about to post, but saw this thread. I've bought these before, and they are really nice. Not quite organic, etc , but not battery either. I will never knowingly buy battery. They have natural light, and room to move (apparently), plus a vegetarian diet.
I bought four medium ones for under £8 today, so am very pleased. :T0 -

The offer has not been in my local Co-Op, I've checked everyday and they have stayed at full price :-(0

I bought one of these birds that was reduced in price at the Co-Op locally. I have to admit it was very tasty but compared to the butchers birds i normally get, there was about 3 times more fat on the Co-Op one which put me off a bit, i wouldn't buy another.0
