how long should we have too wait?

Hi

We were in receipt of csa payments from our daughter for her son (we raise him under a residency order, and have done since 2002), we were getting £5 a week csa plus £1 a wee for outstanding arrears, in August she started a job and I informed CSA asap giving them all the details of where she was working including address, hours, pay etc, the man dealing with our case has been very helpful and patient, he got all the necessary details from the employer himself hoping to speed our assement up, he even walked down the paperwork to the assessment dept, that way he knew it had been received, I have phoned up regulary to check when we should be receiving so money, only to be told that the assessment team have not even looked at our case yet, the man in question has been great and has always chased up the department concerned, and is always telling me to allow another couple of weeks for the assessment team to process it, this is now getting beyond a joke, he told me now that we will not get any money this year, he is very apologetic and I fully understand that it is not his fault, but how long are we meant to wait and is it worth me putting in a complaint. Its easy for them to say that we will be paid the arrears, but how are we meant to bring up our grandson without any maintenance.

Thanks
caris

Are you and your daughter on speaking terms? If so you could ask her if she can contribute something till its all sorted out?

Thank you karenx, it would be great if we could ask our daughter for maintenance, however, her attitude is, you bring him up, you provide for him!!!, she has always tried to do whatever she can to avoid paying anything, even via the csa,

Have a word with your MP, once the CSA get a kick up the bum things may move a little faster.

  • Hi Caris, I'm going through the Parliamentary resolution process and by doing this the CSA are now admitting they didn't act on my previous requests from 2 or 3 years ago such as yours, which would have made a change to the amount my ex should have paid.

I can't understand why they have to make things so difficult!

If you want, you can write to your MP, explain the situation, then he/she will write to the parliatmentary dept and things will move. Not sure if you are at the stage of many CSA errors where this is the right step in your situation.

Thank you for your replies, we have previously had our mp involved and they fobbed him off with the usual excuses and promises all to no avail, he then passed it onto ICE who after looking into the case said that there were errors in our cases (we have cases for both non resident parents, the father now pays, although his employer is rather lax at sending in the payment) and that there had been episodes of maladministration, in the case of our daughter we were told that we could have all of her arrears paid to us (at the time £1400) and then it would be upto the csa to chase her for the payments, this never happened and so we went back to the mp who got the run around again, and now we are back with ICE waiting in their long queue, we just dont seem to get anything resolved which ever root we go down.

What a shame on the poor boy! Where is the father, does he help at all? I can understand your frustration, my case with CSA has been going on for 6 years and I'm yet to recieve a penny! My ex's attitude is the same, he tells CSA 'why should I pay for my son when I don't want him'
disgusts me how people can think like that about their own child!

    Hi

Our GS father does pay via the csa, although he has never even seen his son, he does pay now although it was not always like that, he used to be a job hopper to avoid paying, but eventually he was taken to court, the bailiff turned up at his address and he paid the full amount of arrears to the bailiff, sincethen payment has been coming in from him, on the other hand his mother is adamant that she will not pay, she was taken to court about 2 years ago and cos she was on benefit was ordered to pay £1 aweek of her arrears and £5 a week maintenance, since August when she started work, we have had nothing and she denies having any contact with csa, which we know is not true, the nice man at csa has told us we should get 40% of her wages WHEN we finally get that far, but she is likely to leave her job when that happens, going on past form, and then she wasnt deducted that huge amount.

Nice one, at least he was made to face up to his responsobilities! Im hoping my court case next year is the same!!
I dont think its as much as 40% is it? Use this calculator if you know her wages and it will tell you what you should be getting from her https://secureonline.dwp.gov.uk/csa/v2/en/calculate-maintenance.asp
If she leaves her job she is just making things even harder for herself, it will look really bad for her if she keeps leaving jobs all the time she will never get anywhere in life :(

The 40% will be the arrears he has accumulated over the years.
