Work issues - HELP Please

Options
I have been working for a company for about 9 months as a temp. The girl who I work with (who also happens to live opposite me) is heavily into blue grass music -banjos etc. We are allowed to play music at work but she plays this blue grass music all day long and I have been listening to the same CD for 9 months!

I have spoken to my manager who is too afraid to tell her to turn it down - he skirts around the subject. Yesterday when I asked him to do something about it he said he was too busy to worry about who is listening to what! I spoke to HR who have said that they will interfere but would rather not go above the manager's head as we are a very small company (only 3 people, incl. me in Accounts).

I am at the end of my tether - it is driving me crazy. What people listen to is their choice but subjecting others to it and having no consideration for others is beyond me. I am too scared that if I push for HR to get involved, I might be asked to leave, being a temp. They wouldn't wanto to upset their full time employees. I can't get anyone else to back me up as they are not sitting next to her. I have considered asking to be moved to another deak but we are wired such that accounts sit together.

At one point my boss suggested that I bring in my own music and listen to that but I have never been one who can work with lots of music on, especially when I need to concentrate. I have learning difficulties (not severe) as it is but I don't want to tell them that.

I can't leave my job because it is close to home, it is an easy job for good money as if I move for the same money I'd be under a lot of stress which I will not be able to deal with. And to top it all I have debts that need to be paid.

Any advice will be helpful. I don't want to see myself out of a job. It is year end this month and if I push too hard, they might say they have been asked by head office to cut back and therefore they have to let me go!!

I really don't know what to do. She is the most unpleasant person to talk to - moody, throws her toys out of the cot whenever things don't go her way. Everyhting about her annoys me now all becuase of her music.

I need to keep my sanity otherwise I will be tempted to wrap those speakers round her neck.

I would have thought the best course of action was to talk to her... if she is moody and decides to turn the volume up to spite you then your manager is much more likely to take action.
