How long does employer have to respond to HR issues?

as title really. i submitted my concerns/points needing addressing to our HR manager and i am still awaiting a reply. He replied to say he had got the email and said he would get back to me but 2 weeks later and nothing. I have called but he is always 'unavailable'

TIA

I suppose how long is a piece of string?

Unless you made it an official grievance where he must reponsd within 28 days there is no way of knowing how long he will take.

    Where do you get that?

I am not aware of time on grievances.

OP it all depends, The HR manager will be busy and need to gather evidence. If its a minor complaint it may never be dealt with.

    What is the complaint?

    Thanks guys,

Anihilator i have several issues that are listed below

I have been on long term sick since earlier in the year with an illness i have suffered for over 5 years, suddenly got much worse

I kind of expected there to be a code set out, by acas or simular to give good practice guidelines etc. I find it strange that there is not such a code of conduct.

I think from what you say you would be deemed to have made a greivance and they should have a timescale in their policy within which to reply. If you don't get anywhere write to the CEO or equivalent. Are you a member of a union?

  • I am not a member of a union unfortunately.

I cant see anywhere in my handbook anything re times for response. I shall call them tomorrow and ask about acceptable timescales.

The time scale of 28 days used to be used before the new ACAS code of practice was introduced, however, employment tribunals still ask if you have given 28 days from the time you raised the grievance.

The new legislation simple states it must be dealt within a resonable time, 2 weeks is more than enough you would have thought?
