I have received a letter, txt and sms telephone msg saying get in touch. I have read the forum on this company and they don't sound a very nice company. Can't think what debt i owe, and would like to know how they have managed to get my details etc when i am ex-directory. Do i ignore them and will they persist in leaving messages on my home phone number etc.
Appreciate some advice

Hi
They have probably got your details and phone number from thew whichever creditor they have bought the debt from.
What does the letter say? does it just say get in touch or does it give details of the supposed debt or an account number or anything?
Do you have any outstanding debts?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
I owed debts in 2001, so they are statue barred now, plus i have since changed my phone number etc. The letter just says they are looking for this person, no details of any debt.0

You could just bin it - or you could send the prove it letter http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=11570893&postcount=2A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0

So if i send them this 'prove it' letter, and they get back to me with a debt, from over 6yrs a go, am i right in thinking that they can not enforce this debt. Because if this is the case, i am not worried because any debt i have now is paid regularly and hasn't been defaulted on. My main concern is how long will they try to contact me. My main concern is a few months ago Tower investigations sent me a letter, i ignored it, then they sent a letter to my brother who rung them and since that they have received numerous letters looking for me. I would not be happy if mackenzie hall did the same.
What right have they got doing this.0 -
If the debt is from more than 6years ago and you have made no payments since or acknowledged the debt in writing for the last 6years and there is no CCJ against you for this debt - then it is probably statute barred - there is a factsheet link in this post (depending on where in the UK you live) http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=11571227&postcount=3
If you write the prove it letter and they come back with such a debt then if you write to them telling them you are not going to pay they cannot enforce it and should stop hassling you.
Fishing (contacting people with the same/similar name to their debtor) is not allowed but does go on a lot in the industry.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
