Default on credit report - disputed

Hi all, I'm starting this thread to follow on from another one which can be found here: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=27460677#post27460677

I thought it might be better placed here in the debt

The situation:
I think the main issue with my wifes credit report is one default which is in dispute. It's basically her old mobile network operator. She's had been with them since 1997 and in 2007 she changed to a new network and a few months after moved in with me. She thought she'd settled the account with her old network and that there were no issues.

However a year she received a letter last year at my address asking for the money. She contacted them and explained the problem and promptly paid the bill. It's only after that we saw the credit report and noticed it was on a default. She had been with them for 10yrs and they can see that she never missed a payment. What are the chances that the network operator will remove the defaul from her report? Is there a way that this can be speeded up?

Problem
She's just been on the phone to T-Mobile and tried to be put through to credit referrals. She was put through to collections who then would not put her through to credit referrals and was told they will simply not respond to her at all and neither to Experian. She said the person was quite abrupt and rude to her on the phone. She then called up Experian and changed told them what T-Mobile had said. Experian don't understand why she wasn't allowed to speak to credit referrals.

T-Mobile acknowledges that the debt has been settled, but it does not show up on her report as settled. What can be done about this? It's really worrying us with regards to getting a mortgage now.

Any help appreciated.

Explains the steps, first contact t-mobile, if they refuse then the credit agencies. Add a note to the account and if still not sorted the ICO will look into it.

When issuing the default it should have been sent to you in writing, and when paid off it should have been marked as settled.

Well I just received a call back from my mortgage advisor who basically said there was only lender prepared to lend but that would be at a 75% LTV which would mean another £20k which we can't afford.

It also appears that my wife's problem is secondary, and the main issue is my credit card payments. I've basically missed a few in the past year which has seriously dented my credit report. What he also noted as 'odd' was that my credit score was still higher than my wife's.

Looks like we'll have to rent instead then
  • Congrats on getting one :D
