Sarkozy/Barnier vs the City of London?

It's going to be a big problem: The City has thrived due to lower levels of regulation. Capitalism thriving really annoys the French Establishment so they will try to destroy The City as it has been such a wonderful example of lack of big Government working and also how regulation Fails.
French established interests would rather see the City fail than see French banks prosper.
I write as someone who spent a year living in France and many years dealing with French banks.
Generali, a lot of my french acquintances certainly seem to blame us not being in the euro for ..well, everything and anything , that was going wrong pre crunch...do you think your acquainatances woul feel the same?
we might be going to paris for lunch sometime this month (doesn't that sound wonderfully cosmopolitan...-I hve to be back to do the animals next morning, so might as well just go for lunch) and I'm intersted to see what the mood is with any one I can get talking to.0 -

Unless you speak perfect French, they will probably ignore you - such are typically rude Parisians :eek:0 -

I'll be interested to hear what they say.
I had a chat with a Dubai citizen mature student that I teach yesterday. He's very pessimistic.
@Wookster - FWIW, the French hate the Parisians more than the English do IME.0 -

I used to be a fluent French speaker.
However, I have been to Paris since not being and coped fine. I might have issues with language but it seems I still speak ''human'' pretty well. While certain people are imposible, its always possible to find people who will chat to strangers
More to the point, the people at the lunch, and the people where the lunch is, would chat. 0
