Tesco's Energy Dusk till dawn LED night light or similar

Hi,
Been looking into a way to have a more efficient way of lighting the kitchen when not in use. Say for instance... We sit in the living room and keep bobbing in and out of the kitchen for drinks/food etc and some ambient lighting is all that is needed to basically see where the cupboards are. Have looked into B&Q's Masterplug night lights which are PIR LED x 2 but abit much at £10 + Not sure on the wattage. But also i have seen Tesco's own energy efficient plug in Dusk till dawn night lights which are on permanently but arer only 0.3W. Has anyone got one and can comment on the brightness? Or can recommend anything similar which isnt going to bust the bank. At the moment my dad is using small candles which i joke *candle power* but can be abit dangerous.

The PIR internal would be a good thing but i cant find anything apart from that masterplug one and the stay on all night dusk till dawn things, which would still work as we would turn it on when we leave and be on when we go back into the kitchen. As i said, its not to illuminate the full kitchen. More just ambient night light to be able to navigate around the kitchen and get a snack or something..

Why don't you just get a PIR switch to replace the normal light switch for £6?

Or just fit a traditional dimmer switch to your existing lighting, and turn it down low when you leave the room? I don't really understand why you want something more 'efficient' as lighting isn't really a big user of energy anyway - unless you have a stack of 50W halogens (you haven't said)?
