Constantly using overdraft and not getting any better

Hi all, just a bit of advice needed please...

My husband is a dreadful spender and will take money out of the account whether there is anything in there or not. We have a £1500 overdraft which is used every single month - everytime both of our wages go into the joint account they just go in to repay the overdraft which i am getting really sick and tired off.
Things have upset my husband recently as both he and i need new glasses - i am extremely short-sighted without glasses, barely being able to do anything and he has epilepsy so he needs glasses to correct his vision slightly but also help to prevent migraines/headaches etc. He has gone and bought his glasses (£274 from vision express) and i am having to wait for mine until i can comfortably afford them!! This upset him because a few months ago he was underpaid by his employer by around £300 and ever since then things have been in a dreadful state with our account. Admittedly he doesn't go out as much recently and therefore doesn't use the account as much but still does take £30 out here and £50 out there, just to have in his pocket. He got upset because he knew i needed glasses, that £274 was a lot of money that we just didn't have and that it would make me angry but he'd not had his eyes tested for several years which meant he needed the glasses more importantly.

Basically i am just wondering - i already have a car loan taken out with Asda Finance - £3000 over 3 years (my credit history is a lot better than my husband's). Is it a good idea to take out another £1000-£2000 on top of this loan if i can just to put into the joint account and help things out a little better. We are constantly going into our overdraft and every single day almost it is never in the green. It's really frustrating for me as, until i'd met my husband, i had never been in the red this much.

Any ideas would be much appreciated

From the information in your post it looks likely an extra couple of £k will make hubby feel like a huge weight has been lifted.... so it's time to spend... especially with xmas here so why not enjoy it??

IF you are struggling now, it is unlikely you will be able to meet the repayments, so you will have a really horrid 2010
  • Why not ask the bank for a loan to pay off the o/d then ask them to reduce the o/d facility to say £100?As for the migraines caused by the epilepsy no glasses will stop that its all part of the condition(i have the same problems).

Rather than borrowing more money and spending what you don't have - its time to look at what you do have and learn to live within that amount.
You both need to sit down and work out a strategy together. Be frank, honest and gentle!!
Prehaps the good peeps on the Debtfreewannabe board could look at your SOA and suggest some ways to streamline your spending.
