Loan - debt

I would be grateful for any advise offered.

In 2001/2002 i took out a loan for 25,000 in my name. The adviser at the bank said my credit history was better than my husbands. However my husband and I had set up our own business and had only been up and running since 2000. My husband and I divorced in 2003 and i still have this hanging over me. I have since learned that the bank adviser has been arrested for fraud and has had hundreds of thousands from the bank and during his time persuaded many people to take out a loan. I dont think that i should have been approved for a loan for that amount especially as the business had only been running a year. I would like to hear other peoples views as to where you think i stand on this matter.

You had the loan, so of course it needs to be paid back :)

I assume at the time you didn't mind it being approved despite the business only having been run a year.
  • thanks! I realise that! I just wanted to know if anyone knew of anything i could to regards to the adviser or if anyone had any experience similar

Do you think he defrauded you??

Is it a fair assumption that if he had said no to your application.... you would have applied elsewhere until you got the loan??

Stop the nonsense and make your payments.
  • yes i am making payments. there is no need to be like that. I was asking if anyone had an experience of this

    Experience of what exactly?

What do you hope to achieve?

You have taken the money and it needs to be paid back. If you feel that you want to take some sort of moral stance because you "may" have been sold a loan by a criminal (and that is a very grey area from your comments) and you now want to distance yourself from the bank then ask them for a settlement figure and negotiate a new loan elsewhere.

If however, you think there is some reason you think you should keep the money for yourself and renege on the debt ( which is what many will assume from reading your post) then please say so.

A lot of very successful (and honest) people go off the rails.

It doesn't mean everyone who did business with him in the past can get their wonga back. Only the people who have been defrauded stand any hope, and even then, there is little hope of getting any money back.

I'm sure his fraudulent dealings were investigated. If you were affected, you would most likely have been informed.

I'm with the others, keep paying what you owe.
