Names on Mortgage

Can anyone advise me how I would go about changing the names on the mortgage from my husband's and mine to my sister-in-law's and mine?

I don't really want to have to remortgage to do this, is it possible to change names without do this?

Thanks.

You have to go to your lender and tell them what you want to do

They will then underwrite your SIL to make sure that she is able to go on the mortgage.

If they say yes, then you need to do a Transfer of Equity - and will incur solicitor costs for this transaction

  • The lenders call it a transfer of equity but what it really is, is a remortgage. What you need to do is essentially take out a new mortgage with your SIL and pay off the old one... I've been trying to do the same thing for the past year and getting no-where because the value of my home has fallen...
