I read this on the train into work this morning and thought of you, Dopester. Are you reading this in your Mum's back bedroom, wearing your pyjamas?

Pretty close to the truth Harry, tbh, for me today.

Was woken by door bell late morning. Delivery of 2 part-worns (6mm) premium brand tyres I've bought for Mum's car. Fronts on hers atm are approaching legal limit 1.6mm. For an older careful driver who rarely goes above 40 mph, I'm not replacing them at the more conservative 3mm some people can afford to change at.

Hope you are using the correct technique, that is new tyres on the back and back tyres moved to the front, you wouldn't want a crumbling back tyre puncture caused by old age of tyre:eek:

Some things are worth more than the few tenners you'll save.
If you'd ever been on advanced driver training and seen the difference it makes to two identical cars, you'd not be using them at 1.6mm. The stopping distance difference at 60 or 70 on the motorway is shocking, especially in the wet.
Don't tell me. She doesn't drive on the motorway too?

(Incidentally we had a local news report recently covering the fact that the majority of "re-conditioned" tyres sold were illegal. Bulges in tyre wall, not visible but defective etc etc.)

Never f*ck with your tyres, brakes or steering.

That's always been my motoring motto.

    100% gauranteed.
