Mis-matching Chairs

We only use our "dinning" table at xmas due to the fact we don't have a dining room and the kitchen is a bit too small for it. The table part is easily disguised as although its a basic ikea white table with fold out leafs a table cloth, runner and napkins etc can work wonders! :A

My problem is the chairs. We have two that was bought with it and a third we got for when my OH mum started coming around for xmas dinner. They're a bit uncomfortable but I have some spare seat cushions etc but nothing matches and they just look odd esp with a nice table.

Any suggestions on how I could make chair covers or something? I'm after something cheap, pretty quick to do on xmas day / xmas eve and easy as i'm not the most able seamstress etc.

Thanks

Have you seen the Marks and Spencer advert? You're meant to have mis-matched chairs! :)

I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you absolutely need to have them matching then put the matching chairs on the side of the table that everyone will see so that all looks co-ordinated.

Then, I'd get someone to russle up some covers that act a bit like a tea-cosy just for the tops of the chairs.

That way, they'll all look symetrical.

I do think its a lot of fuss to go to for one day and as long as you're all happy and healthy, don't worry about the chairs matching :)

    Merry Christmas.
  • I got married last year, and during the endless research I discovered that you can buy chair covers relatively cheaply on ebay!

i personally wouldnt worry about it i think it actually looks nice kind of more homely with peeps having to squeeze extra chairs round table,we have a 4 seater table and 4 chairs but it easily seats 8 and we have 4 extra foldaway chairs stored in loft

  • The food and table layout will distract the mis-matched chairs ;)
If you want to you can buy covers but if you only use them once a yr then really wouldn`t be a benefit in my opinion. you could make some if you google im sure you would find some ideas xx

in a perfect world i'd love to but , when we bought our 10 seater dining table it only came with 4 chairs, so we kept 6 from our old table and it works really well for us, as the kids have the older chairs where they are solid pine, but our newer ones although solid pine also, but they have an upholstered seat, and my 18 month old can be very mucky. And i'm really happy with our set up, it also means due to 6 of our chairs not being as chunky as the other 4 we can squeeze another 4 round if we need to and with 14 sat at a table hopefully the design of chair would be last thing on minds. At end of day i know i'm lucky to have a dining table as many can't fit one in their house. and i love nothing more than a family meal and who cares what the chairs is like, it the food and company which is important.

a cheap way to make covers for the backs would be buy a cheap vinyl table cloth from somewhere like wilkos.
They have some really nice ones for £2.50 in cream with a gold trim. Cut it into strips alittle bit wider than the chair and tack into place lenght ways leaving a flap at the back of the chair you can fold over so the whole chair is covered

Blimey!! don't worry about it!! I have just recovered my four chairs so they don't match!! I shall also be bringing in four chairs from a previous set out of the garage, using a pew and if we need more seating bringing in the cheap wilkinson garden chairs that are green and plastic!! When you are sat down everyone will be looking at the food and each other not the chairs. You could tie some ribbon and baubles on the chair backs to make them look festive. Have a great christmas.
