:hello:
Bought this not because I needed it, but because it was cheap.

I've got plenty of bread, and it won't stay fresh long - it's already a bit hard. I can't eat all of it, so is there anything creative I can do with it? If not, then what can I use it up in? Has anyone made bread & butter pudding with granary bread?
Help me get my 19p's worth!
Cheers,
MBE

If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Hmmm I don't know about creative, but it is gorgeous toasted. All the grains go all nummy crunchy ! Not sure about the bread and butter pudding. Sure give it a blast. I would freeze it sliced for future toast based dinnersA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I'd second the breadcrumbs idea - I much prefer granary breadcrumbs to white ones for just about anything. Or you cut it into cubes, toast / fry them and use for croutons on soup?Back after a very long break!0

I like granary bread for toast too. I did think that if no great ideas turn up, then I could slice and freeze it. Trouble is, I don't eat toast very often - usually when I need a Marmite fix.
I thought of breadcrumbs too, but nothing in my current repertoire requires them. What dishes need copious quantities of breadcrumbs?
I do eat soup every now and then. Can I freeze croutons once they're cooked? If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
You can use breadcrumbs to top pies or coat meat - breaded chicken etc.
What can i do with breadcrumbs
I wouldn't be sure about freezing croutons - they take so little time to make i would think they would be better made fresh on request , but you could cut the bread into crouton shapes and freeze like that.
If you don't eat a lot of toast meals, why not see if you can try some out for a change to make sure you use the bread up? That's what I would do.... I highly recommend toasted cheese topped with a poached egg. Cheese and beans toasties are pretty good too!
Something on toast

I don't know how many of these are in the link Zippy supplied, but I use breadcrumbs for topping pasta bakes and macaroni cheese, using on top of vegetable gratins (my usual one is mixed veg in cheese sauce, topped with cheesy breadcrumbs - yum!), using as a topping for a cheat's cassoulet, coating hm chicken or fish goujons and for making hm burgers and meatballs (granary is only of any use here if you don't mind grains in your meatballs / burgers, though). I get through a lot of breadcrumbs, as you may guess!
I think you also need breadcrumbs for treacle tart, but I've never made it and don't know if granary breadcrumbs would be any use for this.Back after a very long break!0
