No, not second hand (at least the one I got wasn't!) - I wonder if they are just trying to shift stock that isn't/wasn't selling.

No matter what the reason, if you think you'd enjoy the book after reading the blurb it's a fairly cheap way of buying books (tho not as cheap as charity shops). Even better if you find a book that you could give as a birthday/Christmas pressie.
