What to buy a pregnant SIL to be

Options
Hi guys,

I am loving everyones threads and have most of my presents organised. I need to get something for SIL to be who is three months pregnant. If she wasn't pregnant a bottle of wine would have gone down a treat. I don't know her really well to be honest as they don't make much of an effort to meet up!

Any ideas welcome!

  • Things I would have liked when pregnant:

A maternity top from somewhere like Zara or Gap would probably be a well received gift.

Alternatively a voucher for a facial.

Some nice smellies - esp ones suited to pregnant people,

    hope that helps

I was 3 months pregnant last year.

A few things I got that I really appreciated were:

The pregnant Willow Tree figure 'Cherish - Awaiting a Miracle'. http://willowtree.info/product/cherish

I was also bought the 'Our Gift' figure for my birthday in July, after I had given birth. http://willowtree.info/product/our-gift

The Willow Tree figures can be bought from high end gift shops. Places like Beaverbrooks jewellwers stock them. They are not too expensive either, and each figure is around £10-15.

I would also recommend a baby's scan picture frame. These can be picked up from most general card & gift shops. They are between £3-£5. You can get single ones or double; double is better as it will hold both of the scan pictures taken over the course of pregnancy. See here for an example: http://www.candigifts.co.uk/items/product-range/photo~keepsakes/picture-frames/double-baby-scan-photo-frame-detail.htm

Just a side note: I'd not recommend getting the non-alcoholic wines as they are just disgusting. I tried a few but they are very sweet and sickly. Personally I just used to get the mini bottles and limit myself to the odd single glass. I know it's quite a contentious area and some people prefer to avoid alcohol altogether.

    Hope this helps!

(As regards non alcoholic wine, last year Tesco did a de-alcoholised Cabernet that wasn't half bad. Much nicer than the sweet ones, and mulled really well. However, if you don't know her too well, and she has decided to drink (to whatever extent) while pregnant, it might come across as a bit...well...

  • As this is probably her last Christmas free of children etc then I think it's a good idea to get her things like smellies or facial things. To really make the most of her last Christmas. All her future Christmases will still be special but in a different way. Plus smellies always go down well with people even if you dont know them all that well. Also, she will probably start to be feeling a bit rough because she's pregnant so a little pampering will be great for her.

I hope I've made some sense :rotfl:
  • When I was expecting my OH gave me a gift voucher for a foot rub at health spa. it was a day pass for me and 2 others ( he said take your girlfriends ). it was a wonderful day but I would have been happy for simply the pedicure.

Something nice and smelly for the remaining time where she actually gets to wallow in the bath (before the logistical nightmares of getting in/out with a big bump star to bite) - I'd recommend Lush but that's because I'd live in the place if I could!

Anything that will pamper her. Some nice luxury bath stuff, candles, her fav chocolate, a good book, flowers.

Its nice to relax and enjoy some comfort in the early months of pregnancy. Maybe even a voucher for a manicure or pedicure.

Her hubby could give you some ideas of her favourite stuff
