EMA and child maintenance

Can anyone answer this please.
My sisters daughter is thinking of going on to 6th form next sept., ..she will be entitled to the £30 EMA. However my sister was told by someone that her child maintenace payments could reduce as her daughter will be recieving £30 a week this will be classed as income?...Surely this isn't right?

"someone" told her wrong, this will be her daughters money and no effect on her income.
    TOTAL 44 weeks lose. 6st 9.5lb :T
  • I agree with doelani - I only started to receive regular maintemance for my daughter when she was at the end of sixth form. She received £30 a week EMA and this did not affect CM amount at all. I am on CSA2 if that makes any difference.

EMA is for attending a college or 6th form course and has nothing to do with CM.

    Teacher 1+2 = 3
    CSA 1+2 = 30,000
  • EMA is paid direct to the student. Child support via the CSA is paid to the NRP. The two payments are completely separate items. The child receiving EMA does not affect the amount of maintenance paid to the NRP.
