HFC Bank

I had got into some difficulty in paying back a HP which was from PC World. HFC are the bank who financed it.
However last week I phoned HFC and asked how much it would be to bring my account upto date and was told £78 which I duly paid. I have set up a DD to pay the remaining amount off and thought that that was the end of it.
Oh no, I have just had a call from the HFC bank asking for me to pay £75.00 in charges. When I challenged them about this I was told that the person I spoke to missed these charges by mistake and I should have been told about them as they were from when I had defaulted on my payments. Can they do this, tell you one thing then charge you again?
Any advise would be appreciated

    Possibly.

Presumably these 'charges' are penalty charges though.

You could ask them to provide a breakdown of their costs relating to these charges. A couple of phone calls does not cost £75 and by law it is unlawful for them to recover any more.

I suggest you point this out to them - offer to pay 1 charge of say £25 and get them to write off the rest.

If you want to get really tough you could refuse to pay anything and tell them to take you to court to recover the money as you think their charges are unlawful.

    Good luck.
