In the living room we have a round dial we can turn that goes from 0-30, I presume its some type of thermostat, then outside in a boiler house we have another dial type thing, this goes from 1-5, at the min its set at 1,
Does anyone have any ideas as to how to set these correctly for winter time? At the min the dial in the house is up full but the radiators never really get boiling hot and once they go of the heat rapidly leaves the house. I presume the dial in the boiler house is also something to do with how warm it gets but haven't poaked at it incase I do something.
Also we usually only leaving the heating on for an hour at a time, so say on at 6pm of at 7 then on at say 9 for another hour, Would it be better to leave it on from 6-10pm down low, or hourly burst of heat?

The thermostat on the boiler should control the heat of the water circulating in your system. The thermostat in the house controls the heat in the house, but if the water isn't getting hot enough in your radiators then you need to dial up the thermostat on the bioler and see if that makes a difference. I'd normally have the house thermostat set to around 20-21 degrees.Norn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0

Best not to set the boiler stat to low, start of around 3, the room stat at 0-30 should be for the temp that you want the room at, living room if memory serves is 21, hall is 18. The boiler stat will also be the temp that your hot water is at coming out of your taps, if there is no stat on your hot water tank to control ensure that it is not at scalding temp, if it is then turn down the boiler stat slightly to a more comfortable hot water temp.Norn Iron Club member No 3530

Yours sounds like mine the thermostats in the house I have the living areas one up around 30 and the bedroom section of the house at 25. I had the same problem when we moved in tho the thermostat in boiler was low but now its turned up its fine. You might also want to check the one in the hot press it should be turned up too.......0
