total not bargain related (sorry) but -

i'm so fed up of business' saying they'll donate a % of every sale to charity.

Why dont they just donate cash straight up. Its piggy backing on a disaster in order to increase sales. 10p to charity, the rest of profit into the owners pockets.

Loads of them are at it. Disgusting.

    Great bargains thanks....

I totally don't agree with what "ey_up" is saying, Companies don't have to donate anything to Charity and it's a plus if they do!!! It's very sad how some people think that every Company are sponging off Disasters like this! Think positive about these situations, every penny counts.

flowmeter - i was refering to my comment ;-) there are some good bargains on there. Use them enough myself ;-)

leona - fair enough on your view. To me, unless they donate all the profit made on items they refer to, i cannot see it as a wholly selfless act. They still gaining arent they.

If a business was to donate all of the profit....it wouldn't be a business for much longer!! Companies have staff to pay, rent etc etc. Play and many other Companies are doing their bit to raise cash for a really really good cause.

I think most people in the world have been touched by this tragedy and just want to do their bit.

This is not really the place to discuss the morals of donating to the tsunami relief fund.

But while everyone else is on the topic i will add my 2p worth...

I have not made any donation personally, as I have left that to Gordon Brown and Tony Blair to donate my hard earned cash for me.

Did you know that Oxfam shops cost 70 million pounds to run, so only 10 million in profits actually goes to charity. :o
  • I totally agree with talkshop
  • Talkshop: I undetstand what you are saying but if we all relied on just the government then millions of pounds that people have raised by doing simple but kind things like raffling xmas pressies, ebay auctions etc. wouldnt have happened......

The government takes taxes from us to use on all sorts but that shouldnt stop us from donating.

Now shall we get back to some moneysaving ;);)

i'm really fed up with the whole tsunami appeal thing. all you people who are donating your hard-earned pennies to the victims and criticising countries/companies for not doing enough, where were you when a million people died in the congo wars? where are you when the people of sudan are dying by the thousands, and those who are lucky enough to survive must leave their homes and re-settle in apalling refugee camps? how many people are dying of disease around the world? how many children are going to sleep hungry tonight? why is there no mention of this in the evening news, whilst tsunami footage is set on a loop on our television screens?

it's not that i don't feel bad for the tsunami victims, but that is by no means the worst place in the world to be right now. and all you holier-than-thou people, who are so proud of yourselved for dropping 2 quid in a red charity bucket should be ashamed of yourselves. only those who are blind to the world's problems could be shocked by the post-tsunami conditions in south east asia. the rest of us have seen much worse.

Can we stop this now before it gets out of hand. This thread started off as being about the play.com sale, & that's where it should remain. Everyone's entitled to their views on appeals etc, but expression of them doesn't belong here especially when it moves everyone away from the original content. Thank you.
