I did a selection of vol-u-vents for starters at a recent dinner party and used different tubs of sandwich fillers for the fillings. The coronation chicken ones were very popular!0

Oh, I'd completely forgotten about the celery sticks!! My gran even had a china pot which looked a bit like celery (except it had a face on it) saved specifically for serving celery sticks!

Cor someone was posh if their cheese and pineapple hedgehog was half a melon! Ours was a potato!!
Melon boats were quite "in" for a while - small wedges of melon with a slice of orange on a cocktail stick with a cocktail cherry on the top. You can make them easy to eat by slicing down through the flesh.Piglet

Hi all!
My friend is having a Christmas eve eve (23rd) gathering for some friends and I wanted to take along some 'cheesy' retro snacks, like cheese and pineapple.
Does anyone have any ideas for things like these which will travel well (as I have to cart them across London on the tube) and are easy to make?
TIA
Caroline**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D

Hi Caroline,
As the thread below yours is on the very same subject I've added your post to it to keep the suggestions together.

dates stuffed with:
cream cheese
stilton
marzipan
walnut halves
miniature cheese scones
cheese straws - Mum uses to make mainly straight ones and then a few rings made with two sizes of round pastry cutters. Used to serve bunches of straws with a ring around like a napkin ring.0 -
