After a life-changing event, a variety performer I knew in a very vague way announced that he was officially 'going grey.' It was quite a shock seeing him afterwards, but also strangely reassuring that he'd come to terms with his age and mortality.

Another, closer friend went the other way at around 55. In the space of six months he lost over a stone, and with it, the grey. The transformation was remarkable, and definitely worthwhile. This was shortly after I'd shown him a particularly unflattering picture of himself at an event where I'd taken snaps. I wondered if that had anything to do with his 'renewal,' but didn't dare ask!:o

DH has started getting the odd grey hair (ok, ok...I pluked about 40 of them while he was sleeping...:o) he's torn between manly nonchalance and the desire to be vain and dye it. FWIW i'm for letting it go grey.....(he's likely to lose it soon though, all other men both sides of family have, I'll be sad then :( )

I was chilled about getting grey hairs - until I read some thread on mumsnet about dying hair and discovered that every woman apart from me appeared to do it. I then looked at mums at the school gates and discussed it and discovered it was true - everyone's at it.

I've now tried it - does look better I suppose, but not sure I can be too bothered/have the time to be the kind of person who worries about roots. Not that I have that many.

Most unfair - my dad had jet black hair till he was in his late 50s at least. Would have liked those genes. :(

I've been getting greys since i was 18/19!!

I'm not proper vain BTW :o, I'm more of a tom-boy really- I just meant about my hair- I have really long 'big' hair- there is no way I will ever have it chopped or let it go grey .....

...the rest of me is completely neglected though ... stupid isn't it... how we all have our own things like that. Like a friend who is obsessed with her weight, but never styles her hair, puts make up on or even bothers with flattering clothes- as long as shes tiny shes happy?!

So, yeah- mines def hair :A

I've had a single white hair since I was 19, too. It took about 10 years for it to find any friends, though. :p

I know what you mean about long hair - I can't imagine cutting mine short (and my OH would be gutted - he won't even let our DDs cut theirs...). I remember having a 'trendy' Princess Di short cut in the 80's (forgive me, it was a long time ago :o) and I hated it until it grew out - felt like I was wearing a mask. Just didn't feel like me.

As one of my fave teenage crushes (yes, you've guessed it, another man with long dark hair) put it - 'I will wear my hair long; an extension of my heart'.

I have long hair too. One of the grotty things for me with getting ill was a lot of it started to fall out...its not as long as it was..the hair falls out sooner IYSWIM, and its a bit thinner, (it was really thick though). It still looks good though: i get lots of compliments on it. I recently went brunette, and it felt really odd. I've died my hair since teens and when I started I was mid/dark blonde...my natural colour has got a LOT darker over that time without me really noticing....but I don't feel like a brunette. I feel a bit like a red head..but the dyes are always rubbish compared to the real thing, and the maintaining of it puts me off a lot. (no greys...well, one grew once, near the front, I plucked it and warned it off, and it never came back)

It's the name that's misleading, I suspect. I look nothing like my idea of a 'Carol' or Princess Di, I'm afraid..or is that good?

You can't get the virtual choccie that easily - google the lyric!

Actually, did just scout around for a nice pic, but didn't find anything perfect - lots of recent pics but he's aged and I don't fancy him any more as he is now. :p How fickle is that?!
