British Gas Default

Help! I have just checked my credit report and found that I have a satisfied default of £57 on my account, this is stopping me from getting a mortgage. Is there any way I can get rid of this, or write to them?

    Did British Gas send you a formal default notice before placing this default on your file? Can you remember?

    If they didn't you should be able to get it removed. If they did then you could ask them to remove it but as its satisfied you don't really have any negotiating power.

    It will fall off after 6 years, not sure if that helps you now. To check if they ever sent a default i would send them a SAR letter, if they don't provide it in the really it would mean it wasn't issued and with the procedure for defaults not followed it should be removed.
    Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
