    you've done NOTHING naughty....

Unless of course she has declared herself as main driver to insurance company and doesn't drive it! I believe that's "Fronting"

Correct. You're fronting the policy on behalf of someone else to obtain a discount. If the insurers got wind of this they would take a very dim view of it and would have ground to terminate the policy as the policy is primeraly for you and you don't even drive the car so in effect, there is no policy!

I think what Phil was commenting on was in the eyes of the bankruptcy she's done nothing wrong. Any issue the insurance has is irrelevant really to the bankruptcy part of the problem, that's what we're commenting on here.

Also correct, but it doesn't alter the fact that the OP is being very naughty in what they did with regards to the insurance and in my opinion (as an insurance broker), they should cancel the policy ASAP and have the driver of the car take out their own insurance. If they're found out, they could get into trouble.

I know, I've been reading the thread. I understand there's a problem with 'fronting' and sound advice to cancel the policy right now, but it's a bankruptcy board and with regard to the bankruptcy the OR will not have a problem with it as long as she declares it at the OR interview.

Thanks for helping guys.. cancel that policy!
  • Hi there, Not sure if this helps but I rang my insurance company yesterday to make sure everything was 'tidy' before we go to court. My husband is the registered keeper on the log book, he paid for it, I am the main driver (which I am) and policy holder on the insurance. I thought this was "naughty" but I asked if it should all be transfered to my husbands name but they said no. As long as we told them that my husband is the registered owner its not a problem.

Don't know if this helps at all, but I thought we were being naughty having it all in my name but him as the owner and it turns out that is fine.

    Good luck with everything :)

That might be different with you being married though, OP is just housemates with the 'owner'.. insurance guys, am I correct in thinking this?

Don,t think it will help the OP to have an insurance fraud conviction on top of everything else. Get your friend to arrange their own insurance immediately.
