hi all
does anyone know if when making an application to reclaim bank charges whether you have to state all charges
or whether you can blanket claim and just say i want all the charges back you have charged me since the account was opened
my record keeping leaves a lot to be desired
thanks

You need to be speicifc and state an exact amount. Because of that you must find out, so do a Data Protection Act 1998 data subject request for the information which will cost you £10.
Write to your bank using the standard letter found on the CAG site https://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk
Good luck0 -
Will that tell you all your bank activity for the past 6 years or just the charges?1 John 4: 7 & 80

When i got mine, it was just actual copies of statements and i had to go through and find the charges on each sheet.

Disgusting I call it. We go over our agreed overdraft limits, write cheques with insufficient funds and banks have the nerve to charge us penalties.
Has to be a nice earner here for the customer. The next thing is the banks will expect us to start crediting our accounts. What is the world coming to.0 -
They will provide you with a complete copy of the information they have on you. It's up to you to extract from that what you desire.
However, the data should be easy to understand.0 -

We're not disputing being charged, we're disputing that they're illegal. If the amount we were charged was the same as it cost the bank then I personally wouldn't have a problem with it.
I find your tone irritating. There are times when we go over limits through no fault of our own and because of the huge charges, can't claw back to a healthy bank account because money that would go to help, is just being spent on the charges. For instance, HSBC will charge £125 pm for being over the limit and £35 per cheque paid out which they should bounce but they don't!1 John 4: 7 & 80 -
Now now ladies, handbags at dawn 'n' all. We're all in the same boat here, no need for nails!!0
