In 1963 The Beatles released "I Want to Hold Your Hand", which knocked their other hit "She Loves You" off the Number 1 slot giving them the Number 1 and 2 in the UK Charts. The Beatles are the only act to do this in the UK Charts. True or False?
ETA - Just posted on the site....

Hmmm, this site names Elvis, Bee-Gees & several others occupying the number 1 & 2 spot. So could be false I think...

Unless, the way the questions worded, about one song knocking the other off top-spot is significant....?
What do you reckon?Worse things will have happened in the world today..."The only thing that really matters, it to love and to be loved."0 -
edit: FALSE
I have the Guiness Book of Hit Singles here. It says:
November 1963 - No 1 She Loves You, No 2 You'll Never Walk Alone
December 1963 - No 1 I want to hold your Hand, No 2 She Loves You
I think it is true
EDIT: I DIDN'T SEE THE SECOND PART OF THE QUESTION. JOHN LENNON ACHIEVED THE SAME FEAT WITH IMAGINE AND WOMAN IN 1981 (FROM ANOTHER BOOK I HAVE HERE - 500 NUMBER ONES).
Sorry it has to be false, the Beatles are not alone. We could all learn a little something from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.0 -
Madonna also had THREE singles in the charts in 1985: No.1 - Into The Groove (her first in the UK); No.2 - Holiday; and Crazy For You in the lower regions of the chart.
As a long time Madonna fan I had that fact to hand but I checked Wikipedia just in case!Life's what you make it....
"I've got one, two, three, [STRIKE]four[/STRIKE], [STRIKE]five[/STRIKE]... senses working overtime..", XTC.
Life beyond voluntary work scares me, but what else is there?

FD - Madonna doesn't count - she never took over No 1 with another one of her records. August 1985 - No 1 Into the Groove, No 6 Holiday. The following month, Into the Groove was at No 7, and Holiday wasn't in the top 20. (Source: Guiness Book of Hit Singles)We could all learn a little something from the weather.
