advice on equity release against property

Hi, It's my first time on the forum. Not sure how to go about this. But I need some advice. My father has just passed away and my mother is left with an outstanding mortgage, a small loan , funeral costs to find, and needs money for some property repair. There are no savings or insurances to come.
Someone in the family has suggested equity release(if this is the correct terminology) I am not sure of this. Is it better to remortgage or get a long term loan? Has any one got any advice or experience regarding equity release? or any of the above? Thanks

Hi and welcome to the wonderful world of moneysavingexpert! I'm not sure if your post is in quite the best place, but no doubt one of the board guides will move it for you if they agree. Have you done a search of the forum? If you look underneath the login box you will find the search button. Type in 'equity release scheme' and see what comes up. I'm certain there will be information there for you. Hope this helps.
