In order to terminate a contract an employer would need to go through the disciplinary procedure current in that company.

so if they just end my contract this is unfair yes, if there is plenty of work and the last contract was for 3 months and this ran out or was about to run out and others who do the same job as me had less time at the company.
    help v gratefully received.

Ah, so you are on short term contracts. If you said that, you might have had more suitable advice. Sorry not to answer your query, I only know that your rights are not the same as a permanent employee

As you have been there for more than a year, you have rights relating to termination of your contract. Short term contracts are no different to permanent. Even though yoou knew it was a 3 mth contract, they still have to terminate it properly by going through the procedure.

thanks for your help this makes me feel a bit better about my ET
I had a years contract then a 6 month then a horrible succesion of 3 months contracts. They have put forward no evidence of any discaplinary meetings and was given nothing to sign or no letters regarding the meeting and no evidence of poor workmanship.
  • So you had a 3 month contract?
Was this terminated, or just not renewed?

It was terminated 29/7/09 and finished work that day and had till 7/9/09 to run so I had no real warning this was going to happen and as I had 10
days holiday already booked and approved by management that gave me about 3 weeks leeway to find a job and in the current job market things are and were sickeningly worrying.
