why would I need a CRB?

Hi there
I took a job in an office and I had to be credit checked as one of their clients insisted that all new staff be checked. Apparently the client (a bank) then insisted all new staff be CRB checked, I thought this was pretty dodgy as well but I think its a conditional offer of the job which was largely in digital marketing0
