My friend and I are going to Edinburgh this weekend and are looking for pub/bar/club recommendations. We're in our twenties and like indie venues - we went to The Hive last year - but are also looking for some more mainstream recommendations. We're staying on George St so anywhere within a short taxi ride from there would be great. I'd really appreciate it if you can take the time to respond.
Many thanks

The club I'd recommend for a Friday or Saturday night is the HMV Picture House, which is on Lothian Road. It's open 11pm - 3am and entry is free before midnight on Saturday (not sure about Friday), but is £5 after midnight, so it makes sense to get there before 12! The music is very similar to what they would play at The Hive too. http://www.mamagroup.co.uk/picturehouse/
There's also Why Not? and the Opal Lounge, but they're more chart music and more expensive (£7 and £5 entry respectively I think). Apparently the Australian rugby team went to Opal last week.

For a pub to go to beforehand, the Standing Order on George Street is pretty cheap and cheerful (and busy). There's loads of bars on and around George Street though, so you'll find something!
Have a nice trip!Time flies you cannot they go too fast!0 -

I would second a vote for the HMV Picture House:

Or you could see what's on at the Mill:
