hey all, can anybody shed some light please

i have a debt with next that was taken over by the lewis group, the debt was due to end this month, my final payment would have been £30, but by mistake i cancelled the direct debit before it was taken, within 2 days lewis group had added a £20 charge to the debt.
i would have paid then and there but to be honest the horrible b**** on the other end of the phone got my back up by calling me stupid
i have never signed anything with the lewis group, how do i stand with not paying the charge and just paying the original £30 payment that was due to be taken?
actually just filled a letter saying they had added it before the d/d bounced? now i am really confussed?
