ICS Learn - Course Fee Loan
Can anyone tell me if ICS Learn hold a credit license?
They offered me some courses and offered to allow me to pay by installments.
They took my direct debit details over the phone, but as far as I am aware, I never entered into a credit agreement or contract of sale with them. They never ran a credit check on me nor did they ever advise I would be entering into a credit agreement. The supposed account I have with them is not reported to any credit reference agency.
After they sent the course material (which was sparse, and not worth the packaging it came in - better is available from Waterstones for 1/20th the price) they sent me a blank credit agreement to fill in with loan amount, repayment, and personal details. I never did this so AFAIK I am not tied into any agreement to pay them?
I have not benefit from the course materials but they advise I am not entitled to a refund.
Can I be chased for debt if I cancel the direct debit to them? As I say, the phone call made to them when I ordered the course did not contain any advice that I was entering into a lease hire / credit agreement or a contract of sale. I did not acknowledge the credit agreement they sent it went straight in the bin.
I've been paying them through the nose for six months now but I've found them of no help or use and for all intents and purposes feel I may as well have been scammed into paying a tramp the money.

I what way did you consider a distance learning course like this rubbish was ever going to be worth anything??0

That's hardly the point or is it anything to do with my query.
Pressure from family and an urge to get proof of my ability on paper lead to a decision which I now regret. That much is obvious.
What is not obvious, is whether or not ICS A) actually hold a credit license, andHave any legal right to enforce any collections action on me, given that I never agreed to be tied into a credit agreement.
If anyone has some contructive advice, that would be great.
I appreciate your point Apples2, but you are only iterating something I have already learned.
They have taught me one thing - not to try distance learning every again!!Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

They will have and unfortunately for you will not be able to rely on this as a cop out.
Sorry if this is not what you wanted to hear.0 -
Even if the credit agreement does not stand up, they will persue you for the full cost of the course.0

I'm confused.
So despite the fact that during the initial sales call when my bank details were taken, I was not advised that I would be entering into a credit agreement, and never agreed to be tied to a credit agreement, they have the right to enforce payment?Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

My ex Girlfriend done one of those ICS courses, and like you, thought it was rubbish. She stopped paying and they handed the debt over to Mackenzie Hall debt collection - and she refused to pay them too. She never received a default on her credit file or went to court.0

Thanks for your input Dan: this is what I was expecting.
Did she acknowledge any of the correspondence atall from the debt collection agents? Or just reply to say "I do not acknowledge any debt to your company"?Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

If it did go to court, surely the question would be asked, if you never entered into a credit agreement, then why did you make 6 months of payments?
Yet another case of buyer's remorse I fear. Always better to do the research prior to agreeing a deal, not afterwards.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

I'm sorry, I don't apologise. That's just the way I am. Homer (Simpson)0 -
Hardly the point is it?
Making six monthly payments proves only two things - ICS had my details, and I gave them some money.
If I made six monthly payments to you, and you took me to court claiming I owed you more, even though I never agreed to pay you anything let alone more than I already had, how could you possibly get the court to rule in your favour, other than with false evidence?
As I say, I neither verbally or in writing agreed to be tied into a credit agreement or contract of sale.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Are you disputing the credit agreement, or the product you purchased?0
