Remove Default on Credit File

There is a £17 default on my stepdads credit file from Vodafone for a mobile phone contract. We have now paid this off and I was wondering if it would be possible for this to be revoked or do you think vodafone would leave it on to teach a lesson ?

Although the default should now be marked as 'satisfied', the credit reference agencies will not remove the default for six years (from the date Vodafone decided the customer had defaulted).0

I realise this Yorkshireboy - however I decided to take action into my own hands.
I sent them a letter via recorded mail asking them for a signed document where my stepdad agreed to owing the money (consumer credit act) and also I wanted proof that they sold the debt on to a dca. They sent me a letter back within two days removing the default

It's my stepdads - it looks a lot better now than it did. As for worthy. I wouldn't know. We shall find out in September when he applies for a lower rate loan!

Hi I am in a similiar situation.
I applied for a 0% balance transfer credit card and was refused because of a poor credit score. I have checked my CRA files and the only negative thing is a default for £67 to vodafone from 2004. I cancelled my account by fax back in 2004 then moved house, I didn't give them a forwarding address as I thought that my relationship with them was over. Vodafone failed to cancel my account then billed me for 2 months before serving me with a default notice, which I did not receive because I had moved house.
I have contacted Vodafone who have told me the debt has been passed on to a collection agency and that I should contact them. Vodafone are not willing to accept that they have made a mistake, they have implied in their response to me that it is my fault for not providing a forwarding address.
I'm not sure how to precede - I do not particularly want to pay the debt as I don't feel I owe them a penny, however I would pay them the money if they agreed to remove the default. The problem with this I think is that only Vodafone can remove the default but I have been told to deal with the collection agency.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated I really don't want to have to wait until 2010 before I can get a 0% balance transfer card! in particular Blue Lou could you give me a bit more detail about how you went about dealing with Vodafone?0 -
Hi Blue Lou,
this sounds like something taht might help me. Sue to issues with o2 in 2004 it shows a default for 4months!! on my o2 contract - now this was an issue with o2 to which I have letters effectively them saying it was our fault and is now resolved (basically they didn't take a DD for 3 months! never even attempted to take it and then tried to pass the debt onto a collections agency and cut me off - needless to say I wasn't very happy).
Now having recently got my credit file free - thanks to MSE, the only thing on my whole file that is not good is this default showing from o2.
can you give me more details on how you got this removed on your step-dad's card as I think this would help me greatly!
thanks
