3G debt Collection from Red debt colletcion services!!

HI,

Today i recieved a letter stating that i owed 3G Mobile an oustanding payment from Feb 2005. I cannot remember if i owe the debt or not as it was so long ago but i would like proof of the debt owed but i am not sure how to do this.

Red Debt colletion services have been appointed by Lowell Porfolio LTD and they have said that they (RED) or there clients (Lowell) do not know of the reason why the balance is there to be paid and also i need to make payment or arrange a payment within 10 days.

Any help on this matter would be appreciated

cheers

They are not clients of one another. They are the same company playing silly games with company names to confuse you.

Plus, they must prove the debt to you, or "get lost".

  • Thanks for the reply will cut and paste (fill int the blanks etc) and send to them,

What will they do once i have sent the letter?
  • Hi John,

My OH had this same situation, but with O2. We sent the 'prove it letter', and got a reply along the lines of - we're looking into to, no further action will be taken in the meantime.'

A few weeks later we had the same letter, and since then (about 2 months ago - nothing.

Don't sweat it yet - it's up to them to prove you owe the money, and if they've bought the debt, there's a good chance they are missing some vital paperwork, or that it was a mistake.

  • Hi, I had exactly the same letter today for 3G. I took out a phone contract with them in 2005 for my ex partner who told me he'd settled this debt- obviously not. Is it still worth sending the above letter or should I just pay it and be done with it? Will it affect my credit rating by showing as outstanding.......?
  • Hi,

I am in the same situation and Lowell continue to harass me and make threats concerning a debt that cannot be proved because I don't owe it.

Are there any other avenues we could go down with this? Would Extortion be too strong a word for what they are doing?

    One definition of extortion is

'the act of extorting, or getting money, etc. by threats, misuse of authority, etc.: sometimes applied to the exaction of too high a price'

Does anybody know if I could take legal action against them?

Lowell really are acting in a disgraceful way and seem to get away with it again and again. Surely something can be done to prevent debt collection companies getting away with such practises?

Hi, Similar situation with a One to one contract taken out in 2000. The phone was stolen so I refused to pay the bill and the 'end of contract fee'. One to one(now T.Mobile) were informed about the theft as were the police but they were both useless telling me 'tough'. I've been contacted ever since by DCA's as recently as yesterday by phone, they even hassled my dad who paid a few payments on my behalf in 2004 without telling me at the time!. The next recorded delivery letter will not be signed for, and handed back to the postman to return to sender, and I'm not even opening an unrecorded one,it goes back still sealed!. I have never admitted the debt, and next year it will be statute barred. These people demanding money like this are just dirt when they know they are morally wrong!. They have told me absolute lies on the phone even when I've told them to go away and I know nothing of thier debt!. I wont be paying at any cost.

you are liable, that is unless you have insurance as its not their fault you lost it.
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

@rebel2, Your liable for calls upto until you report it missing/stolen.Aall they have to do is send out a new sim card. The phone isn't part of the contract.

  • I had a letter from RED this week also concerning 3G account for 2005. They stated that I owed nearly 600 quid. I have sent them a prove it letter and I will not be bullied or harassed by them. If you look at the templates on the main page for Debt Free Wannabe there are numerous letters you can send after they reply to your proof it letter.

good luck and don't let them bully you!
