Halifax overpayment delay

Hi
We make regular monthly overpayments of 650 on our fixed rate (5.99%) mortgage, about 92k remaining. I normally ring Halifax to do this because their online mortgage banking is very poor and won’t allow transfer from our Halifax reward joint account. Also their system is defaulted to trigger a reduction in our regular monthly repayment figure each time an OP is made (don’t wont that!).
This month I called and overpaid as usual but the transaction from our Halifax current to mortgage wasn’t showing after a few days. It’s normally updated within an hour. Called them today and found that they have no trace of the overpayment or the call I made to them
They said that they have a back log of OP requests on a spreadsheet that is actioned by a member of staff. The current timescale for ours will now be 3 days but will be backdated to today. I put this down to human error blip this month, yet I can’t help thinking that this function of their business is a low priority as it in effect reduces their profits. Some months I make an OP in a branch and the cashier looks at me funny as if to say ‘what, you want to make an overpayment?? Good lord, I’ve never heard of anyone wanting to do that before! Are you sure?’. And oftentimes they are not capable of doing this and ask for the help of the in-house mortgage adviser.
Anyone experienced things like this with Halifax or other lenders?

Hi I don't know if this helps at all but I'm just about to embark on the OP process i.e. Jan 2010
I added the roll number to my online account to allow me transfer £ via a standing order each month, throughout this period I got the impression that many Halifax staff thought I was nuts(I've been in the bank& on the phone to them). Such was their reaction that I've found myself on the likes of this forum seeking advice from genuine people like myself0 -
Good luck with your OP plans. I know, it's like the frontline staff have not been trained in the dark art of facilitating an overpayment on a mortgage customer's account. . . or have they?

Update: the 650 OP has left our joint account but it's dated 24th - the transaction they have no record of. Now i'm thinking they will take another 650 as I instructed today!
We are planning to keep paying 650 each month untill Feb12 when our fix ends, leaving about 65k (vs 93k we owe today)
