Hi guys
I've got a rather large leg of lamb I wanted to cook for tea. I will be leaving the house at 8.50am and will be back 2.45pm...........would it be ok to leave it in the oven on the slow cook setting for that time?
Worried in case the house burns down!!
I have left the oven on slow cook over night by accident
and everything was fine (the oven was empty however!).
And before anyone suggests it - no it won't fit in the slow cooker!

I used to do lamb overnight when I had a gas oven. I also used to stick it on when I went out on a Sunday. Never had any problems.
I have electric now and it turs itself off after 4 hours which is annoying.0 -

I work afternoons and often put the oven on, on low, all afternoon. No problems - unless you've got a dodgy cooker of course!0 -
I leave the electric oven on while I am out on a Sunday morning and would do a leg of lamb at 150 from 8-30 until about 1.00p.m. It's quite delish and the only way to cook a leg of lamb IMO. Just remove the foil and bang up the heat when you come home to brown and crisp up the skin.

I'd ask your insurance company if you would still be covered in the event of a house fire.0

I've left jacket potatoes for an hour and a half while I went to the pub :T
It'll probably be ok, but I wouldn't like to leave the oven on too long just in case!0 -

I have a timer on the oven and often set it to turn on the dinner in the afternoon so it's cooked and hot when we get in at night.
I probably wouldn't with gas, but then I wasn't raised with gas and only have it on the hob now.GC 2010 €6,000/ €5,897

If it was an electric oven, I would do it. If it was a gas oven, I definitely wouldn't as there's always a risk of the gas pressure falling so low that the gas extinguishes itself and fills the house with gas, causing a fire/explosion risk. In such a case, your insurance company might not pay out.0
