Graduate Loan...

Hi all,
I'm looking for some advice regarding graduate loans, and other loans etc for new graduates.
I hold a graduate account with natwest, and have recently applied for a graduate loan of £5000 as I am going travelling in 3 months time, and would like to extra cash to ensure that I won't find myself in a sticky situation and stranded in Asia. I also want to use part of the loan to pay off my student overdraft of £2,000. However, my application was rejected because of previous 'poor management' of my account.
This leaves me really stuck to be honest, I have to pay some of my travelling costs in 3 weeks time, and was relying on that credit to see me through. I am surprised that, since I am now in full-time permanent employment and therefore in a much better financial situation than I was a few months ago when said 'poor management' of my account occured, why natwest can't see that I'm now much more of a low risk customer. I definitely thought that the nature of the graduate account/graduate loan would involve the bank being more understanding of a persons situation, if not more lenient.
So now I wonder whether to try to open another graduate account, and apply for a graduate loan that way? Or is this likely to come up with the same solution? Will I even be able to get a credit card now that I've been refused credit?? I'm concerned to say the least, and can't make up my mind whether to apply to a different loan company and risk rejection again and ultimately ruining my credit rating for the forseeable future.
Thanks in advance for any useful tips/advice!
