i am terrible i never read labels before going into a machine . ( no accidents yet either ). i always wash my kiddies material toys in the machine. usually on a 40. but every few months i do them on a boil just to make sure they germ free. never had a prob. not saying this will owrk for all material toys tho. but certianly a 40 wash would be fine. some of them i will tumble dry after they been on washing line and got nearly dry.
one tip tho, if putting them in the machine do it at night, so your little one can't see. my daugther got very upset to see tigger going around the machine when she was younger.0 -

I want to clean my sons cuddly toys, but most of them don't have labels on. How can I tell if they are safe to put in the washing machine or if not how do I clean them and what is best to use on them? I know he will be devastated if I ruin any of them.0

I had this dilemma as my DS has asthma and have to regularly wash his cuddly toys. Several he has are handwash only but someone suggested putting them in a pillow case first and then in the machine and it has worked a treat. HTH.0

Hi Snoopy_rules,
We have an older thread on cleaning cuddly toys that might help you, so I'll merge your thread with it. Posts are listed in date order, so you'll need to read from the beginning to see all the replies.

Several months ago I put a 3 foot long tiger through the washing machine 4 consecutive times on a hot wash : someone had abandoned him on a skip:eek::p:o;) He was a bit mankey but came up a treat, even his polystryne head is OK. Afterwards I read the lable.....you've guessed it:rolleyes: Anyway, he now proudly adornes Spuds room, and my neighbours still joke about mummy hanging the big tiger out to dry:D
I'm more worried about some of the bright colours running than anything so I have been known to be very wasteful & wash some toys one at a time:eek: but so far they have all survivied:rolleyes:
Battery cuddlies I generally spray with a diluted disinfectant spray & try to sponge, not very effective but better than nothing.

With some battery toys, you can carefully unpick the cover and wash it then sew it back, sometimes they are glued .
My sons red-ted went in the wash by mistake(he was hiding in the duvet cover) and ruined a few things as he ran and his lovely soft plush bear-skin was all scruffed up and spoiled.
I used to wash my daughters beanie babies by knotting them in a bath towel and then washing at 40 degrees.0 -
I always washed mine with no trouble. AND tumble dried the teddy bears.
THis is my own personal experience and does not constitute advice, so ya can't sue me if it doesn't work LOL;)Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
