Healthy eating but always starving?

I have started (trying) to eat a healthy diet while doing 2x30mins on the Treadmill a day......

Problem is I keep feeling really hungary, today I have eaten

1 Bagel with Low fat cream cheese and banana
cup ot tea
3 x crisp bread with low fat pate and handful of grapes plus small apple.
Big glass of water, but Now at nearly 4pm I'm starving and I don't know what to have until dinner to curb the hunger!

I don't want to think "Oh stuff it" I will have a bag of crisps!! Help

Many thanks

  • are you drinking enough? you could just be dehydrated? Otherwise, i sometimes have herbal tea, hot drinks make me feel a bit fuller for longer

  • A piece of fruit or dried fruit will keep you going until your main meal.
Make sure that you eat enough protein as that takes longer to digest than carbohydrate. So be generous with your low fat cheese etc.
  • You've had 1 cup of tea and 1 big glass of water! You're not drinking enough.

Soup is good whilst dieting, as the liquid keeps you full for longer. Chunky soup not uniform liquid (iyswim). And obviously not Cream of... soup.

I think your missing some protein,
perhaps having some plain chicken breast with lunch
and some nuts/dried fruit as a snack would provide more satiety and help stave off pangs.
Also try soups/herbal teas etc and up water intake.

    Best of luck x

Ditto above. You must eat protein when exercising (in particular within 30 mins of exercise). This will build muscle and improve your stamina.

You are doing the equovalent of around 600-800 worth of calories in exercise so your body will want to replace that and will crave carbs. Have a yoghurt, chicken, milk, cheese, eggs and meat to fill you up.
  • Ah 4pm hunger! I've got it too. Herbal tea is really good for staving off the pangs, or have something like a piece of fruit around 3pm so you don't get to the starving hungry stage- you're more likely to snack if your blood sugar is low and you're really really hungry. I'm just waiting for my herbal cuppa to cool!

Thank you all, what kind of soups do you have or rather what make? I tend to make my own most of them time but not sure how long it would last as it's normally wolfed down - I want to make some for just me ;-)

I am the same, I usually have a tin of soup, in fact I eat loads of soup, today I've had a tin of chicken noodle for dinner and then a minestrone for a snack , and thats it, for tea I had better have something healthy, maybe a cheese and ham omlette with some salad

Your not eating enough I'm afraid! Try swapping the bagel for some wholemeal bread and the crackerbreads for a large salad and a peice of chicken or a jacket potato with beans. You can eat as much veg as you liek as well so snack on carrots if you need to!

Also you've eaten about 1000 calories so far - you'd be burning about 400-600 in 2 x 30 mins on the treadmill so your net calories are about 400-600 - which is not a lot!

More carbs needed and more protein! Try a potato for lunch with salad and something like tuna...

Healthy eating does not mean starving yourself - you wont stick it if you do (crisps look extra good when you are hungry)! For snacks try dried fruit and nuts - quite a few calories in nuts but its very healthy fat :D

Also if you really want to get a full idea of what/when - try food focus - it lets you personalise your body now and what you want to get to etc and then you log what you eat and see how you go :D
