Suppose its the stability and a sense of being settled. I do see both sides yes, Its just very frustrating. At any moment really when renting you can be told to move out, also spending £650 which is dead money is frustrating.0

richard - in fairness rents are quite high too so I think may people think they would be better off paying off a mortgage which will ultimately become their own, rather than pay money for rent.....
But yes, in the UK there has always been this thing about owning - or certainly in the last however many years - I can't recall it being like that when my Grandparents were young and first married - renting was the way forward then!
Aren't there some countries where you effectively take out a mortgage for life and pass it down the generations? Sorry digressing slightly....0 -
Does the OP have a poor credit history? Have I missed something? Probably.....0

I really don't know what Maggie Philbin has got to do with anything.
OP - 50k house would be alright.
HappyRichard "the market has changed to ensure that people do not get themselves into a situation where they can't afford the homes" - no, its because we have had a recession and lending is stricter as house prices have been falling. Not some pro-active safeguard instigated by the caring banking sector.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I said this earlier, it's not that the lenders care about the borrower, what they do care about it repossessing a place and not getting their money back - more likely to happen in today's climate imo.....0

Well please forgive me for attempting to help you.
Your reply is quite rude and defensive. You've asked for help, I've provided it.
Home-owning is always more expensive then you think.
I won't bother attempting to assist you in future.0 -
Wutang - think you've jumped a post hun
That was someone else - OP is a FTB....
Aha - Lee, tbh I think your best option (and maybe your only) is to wait and save like mad..... I think my speed reading isn't as good as it was lol!
ETA - have now read the thread attached - it's all become clear again!!0 -
PS please forgive me for not being psychic, therefore failing to realise you're buying a new-build, which of course you didn't mention in your original post. Silly me!0
