in Cutting tax
i am trying to do my tax return online. I own a proprty which i rent out.
on the part wher it says tell us about you there is a question
Did you receive notification from the Student Loans Company that repayment of an Income Contingent Student Loan began before 6 April 2009?
The only 2 options are yes or no
the notes explaining this are :
Student Loan
Repayments of Income Contingent Loans are collected by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) (for new borrowers, from August 1998).
If you have an Income Contingent Student Loan for which repayment began before 6 April 2009, please select 'Yes' from the drop-down menu otherwise, select 'No'.
Please contact HMRC if:
my daughter was a student at uni until last year and i did register on the student loans but that was to help her get her money sorted .could they have mixed us up.
my daughter has started work just in march this year and has not yet been contacted about starting to pay back her student loan ????
scared to ring them ( they scare me for some reason ) until i know what this means .......

Please contact HMRC if:
- you receive notification after you have sent your Return that your student loan has been fully repaid before 1 January 2010
- in HMRC's calculation of your tax and student loan repayment, the loan repayment exceeds the balance of the loan and you have not been notified that it has been paid in full

They are asking you a straightforward question. So if you didn't receive notification from the SLC that repyt of an Income Contigent SL began before 06/04/09 then say no.

There are two types of studdent loans: an income contingent student loan is a student loan taken out after 1998.
as yoiu have never had a student loan then you just answer 'NO'0 -

The question is on the Tax Return for everybody who completes one, it does not mean HMRC think you are a student.
