Need help and fast

Options
I am unemplyed as of today, I was told I was sacked but if I wanted to I could resign to keep my slate clean.

I have a mortgage, 2 kids, a car and no money

I have just had a court summons for council tax saying I have to pay it all or go to court.

I am claiming child and working tax credits, I have not yet updated my circumstances.

What do I do?????

    Well, do not resign.

Talk to your union rep about why you were sacked: maybe they can claim unfair dismissal.

As for council tax, talk to the collections department and see if they will agree to take something now. Even if the case goes to court it is not the end of the world: they will just order you to pay (including costs). If you choose to attend court in person you may well be able to get them to agree to accept a small amount each week.

Resignation will make finding a new job easier (subject to the level of dissatisfaction your employer has and if they put this in a reference) and you would receive your notice period in pay but it would prevent any PPI from paying out and would delay any benefits (such as JSA) from being paid

Being sacked would damage your chances of getting future jobs and depending on if it is for gross misconduct or not may effect any PPI claim but would mean that you are eligeble for benefits immediately.

    Hello ShaunJUK

I'm sorry to hear about your circumstances. You haven't mentioned it (and might not have considered it yet) but you must contact your mortgage lender to arrange an appointment to discuss your finances and ability to pay the mortgage............or a reduced amount as a temporary measure. Don't just ignore it and risk losing the roof over your head.;)

Ring the Citizens Advice Bureau for help and advice. Use the search function to find your nearest branch and opening times etc.

Good luck with your job searching.

    Kind Regards

Contact your local jobcentreplus office to make a claim for jobseekers allowance. If they impose a sanction because you left your job voluntarily you may still get benefit at a lower rate(hardship).

Hopefully you will get a job very soon, but in the meantime you should make a claim for jsa.

First off contact Council about tax being overdue, thats important. Explain situation and they'll usually be able to help.

Secondly apply for what benefits you can while you are looking for work. Council tax benefit will hopefully take the pressure off payin that aswell.

Third best of luck looking for a new job
One day I might be more organised...........
