So its extremely unlikely that you will get any response to applications ever,
let alone to letters asking why you didn't get an interview.
why bother posting if it is going to be unhelpful?0 -

Just because you don't like what it says, doesn't mean it's unhelpful. If the OP just wanted to hear nice things said she should realize that A LOT of people are in the same situation i really don't see why her other half is even thinking of chasing it up... Hard knocks are hard to take but we all take them. Maybe this is the first time he/she are out of work, well then the post was just enlightening them to the fact of how hard it is out there at the moment.Bank Charges won £4,800 in 2006 From LloydsTSB

Its not always about the Job spec, I take into account what other experience/skills a candidate can bring to the table.
I was hiring for a .net developer/manager role, and had two great candidates, one could speak 4 languages fluently, and he got the role, as I had recently landed a couple of contracts that required development in 3 languages.0 -

The post isn't unhelpful.
It is telling you how it is at the moment for lots of roles.
Unfortunately if you are not the first few that gets the manager's eye and fits the job spec, then your application may not even have been looked at.
And the standard response of asking for feedback is for them to state that there was someone who better fitted the criteria.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

I'm in the same situation OP - I have experience and qualifications (too many of those...), but not even getting emails saying 'no thanks' yet! It feels hard to take, as it's rude, if nothing else, but it's not personal. Hang in there xx

I didn't ask to "hear" nice things, i've been a member for a while now so know not to expect that. Didn't ask for sympathy either I was asking for constructive help. I'm sensing that some people just have a negative opinion.
To some posters - You haven't waved some magic light on the world of unemployment on hard it is out there, I gathered that myself. I was merely asking if there was any way to appeal or even if it was worth chancing it for feedback. I take on all the constructive comments and have passed them on, so thank you. I don't want to kick my OH when he's down so I'll leave the sarcy ones out.

That's a bit of bull about job spec.
If yous were hiring for a cleaner in shop and everybody who applied had cash handling skills you'd start them a sales assistant.
Can't be legal to make up job post and spec as you go along or should get reported.
To the OP I sympathise with your husband as most of posters on here are shoddy managers so what chance have you got....0 -

Good point. Hope this is constructive..
I'm looking for two positions - one is very much project management oriented, other is more change management. (ie technical role vs people role ) Salary band wide - 30 - 50k because quite open on skill/experience level.Great working conditions. However, what is important is that these are not entry level jobs so should expect some sort of standard. Have to say, the calibre of candidates was extremely high. I've been recruiting for almost 30 years and I don't think I've ever had such a quality response.
Why I rejected candidates..- irrelevant application - CVs which did not reflect all the kind of skills/experience/quality I was looking for. Might have been a great candidate, CV did not demonstrate that. No knowledge of what my company do (we're in the press weekly at the moment)
- Sloppy presentation; poor spelling, grammar.
- No covering letter. I specifically asked for a covering letter detailing what candidates would bring to the role. However, if the CV was very good, I would still consider. I struggled over this because obviously lack of letter showed poor attention to detail. I decided in the end that if the CV was obviously tailored to the role then that should count.
- People didn't follow the process ie called or emailed asking for more info
- Real enthusiasm to work for us. - covering letter demonstrated real research and understanding of what we do and what we are looking for. Way more important than no 3,
- Sense of energy/attitude/drive : I'd look for a story throughout job history. More important than no 3
- Skill/experience match
- Easy to read application - well set out, clear indication of strengths, good benefit statements
My first action is to look at outright rejects and discount them, then second action is to select prime candidates to interview.
That's how I do it. I'm also involved in recruiting welders, plumbers, engineers, admin workers, MDs and the process doesn't differ greatly.
OP - hope your OH finds something soon. If you want to PM me I'm happy to give CV feedback0
