i have £15k worth of debt now and am looking for a personal loan to consolidate the amount at a low (ish) rate.
i applied at the abbey today, and was point blank refused, but the woman said it may be because i do not have any acc's with them.
i have never missed any pymts, i'm 22, a married homeowner earning £16k p/a in my 1st job, and £200 p/m in my 2nd. i thought i had a fairly good credit score. i have been employed for 2 yrs. i don't want to joint my hubby on, as he gets refused for credit all the time - don't know why.

can anyone recommend a company i could try?

would love to win something 'proper'!!

Is it a joint mortgage? If so, his poor credit will affect yours. As it will if you have any joint accounts.

New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.

Which bank do you use to pay your income into? Try them, they will see the proof of your income and be able to give you a good deal. I bank with First Direct and needed a loan to consolidate and they offered £20,000 (6.1%) when i made an enquiry online. I ended up taking a £15,000 loan...no phone calls, no hassle...just a form to sign the next day and the money into my current account two days later. Thumbs up FD!!!!

Order your credit files and check them. See Credit Rating link in the blue box above.
Appeal to A&L with all the facts that you listed in your post.

    Worth checking his credit file.

Has he always banked with HSBC?

Does he have a pay as you go phone?

Is he on the electoral roll?

HSBC have only recently started sharing 'in order' account information so often their customers have been 'credit invisible' and found it hard to get credit.

Your tesco loan isn't bad but your overall amount of debt in relation to income might put off a lot of lenders

You may have better luck getting a smaller loan for your two credit cards (which you then must rip up or reduce the credit limit on to avoid tempation).

    Good luck.

    boltonangel,

maybe a consolidation loan isn't the best plan..I'd have a look at the DFW board for a second opinion. Might not be for you, just a suggestion.
