bike

Hey, I am looking to buy a bike for myself. Am not sure where to get a decent and cheap one from though. Can anyone help? I remember last year there was a deal for 2 adult bikes(1 mens and 1 ladies) for approx £90. Not sure if ill get the same deal again...not even sure where i saw it. I would prefer 2 bikes (1 for him and 1 for me).

I would avoid a cheap bike as they tend to be poorly built and will only bring you problems.

I would either go for a good second hand bike or a more expensive brand new bike

There are a few threads on the forum regarding mountain bikes so they may come in useful to you

    thanks for the tip
  • If you get any bike, then invest in the biggest, baddest chain and padlock for it. I am still smarting over my bike that I only had for 2 weeks , before chaining it to railings in town - when I returned, it(and the chain) were gone. And it wasnt some cheapo chain either.

That will never happen to my bike. It's not very good, purple, and teen girl sized (I'm 4'10"). Also it cost £20 from a car boot sale so if it does get stolen I shan't loose much sleep over it. If you have a good bike I think it's worth having not only a good lock, but also insurance. If I had a decent bike I'd buy bike insurance way before I'd ever buy contents insurance.

Also consider what you actually want to use the bike for. It will make a big difference to what type of bike it is best to buy.

Definitely the way to go. ALL locks are breakable, just depends on time and effort. One of the biggest lock makers (krypton) recently had to recall 2 years worth of locks after it was shown you can pick the lock with a bic biro lid... M&S home insurance normally gets talked about as providing good cover for bikes (rather than a specialist service) within cycling circles.

Have a look in some of the sports shops or Halfords because they might have some good deals for you.

    Good luck.
