I sold my first two computers(yay) I reused the packaging for two of the boxes, to put two fully built computers in. Along with this, I had other packaging-two big bulky cardboard boxes extra of packaging and several other bulky cardboard boxes for components. I was going to put this in our recycling bin and i saw it said no cardboard-I then had to put the excess packaging into the green normal bin, which felt like such a shame and filled up the bin a lot more lol. Im just wondering, where it says "no cardboard" on the recycling bins, does that just mean corrugated card or could cardboard packaging go through the system?

Also, I might be looking into buying an Epson SX610FW/BX610FW printer and using Peach ink-the highest quality compatibles Ive heard of. Im currently using an Epson DX4000 with refilled ink(not CISS) and Im getting streaking on pages. I thought with me buying Windows 7, then I might as well upgrade the old kit as well lol.Anyway, in the future, id probably be wanting to recycle these compatibles, but it seems no one is recycling Epson ink? All, I want is postage to be paid for to send the items off to be recycled and nothing else, or if post doesnt cost too much, Id pay it, but obviously Id rather pay nothing

Ive found Oxfam Would be nice if they do a recycling program for Epson compatibles :D I know Epsons are only just a chunk of plastic, but it seems a right waste to throw them away. Also according to someone's site I found from google, Epson recycle their products by incinerating them to produce heat which is then converted to electricity. Apparently, its the most eco friendly option and the German company(Cant remember which company the site said, but the Germans are awesome at recycling :D) said it was the best method. Trouble is, I doubt they'd accept compatibles

Surprised they can't recycle cardboard - have a go at your local councillor/MP (Kirklees has been recycling cardboard for at least 10 years now).

Have a look at the Epson recycling site http://www.epson.co.uk/Explore-Epson/Environment/Recycling/1223291253588 - PC World/Currys etc used to have stocks of envelopes, but I haven't needed any recently.

Thanks for that, but Im not sure if they'd accept compatibles

EDIT: I see they have live chat I might be a little cheeky and ask them if they'd allow compatibles in this program. Oh and I might send a letter to Ann Cryer as well soon as you suggested

Seems a bit ridiculous as the Keighley RC [claims it] handles cardboard - smoke+mirrors again? http://www.bradford.gov.uk/asp/waste_management/recycling_output2.asp?id=37

Yes, I think this is your council's decision, as we have a 2-bin system here, a green bin for non-recyclables & a silver bin for the stuff the council can recycle. We can put any sort of cardboard in our silver bin and if we want to get rid of large packaging cardboard such as you describe and don't want to fill our bin up, the council are fine about us just flattening it and leaving it at the side of the bin on collection day. You're quite right that it can be recycled. Probably worth nagging the council.

Epson won't recycle compatible cartridges. Why should they? They didn't make them and they didn't make any money out of them...in fact you could say you they are losing money out of them.

The reason for the streaks on your Epson printer is normally a clogged up printhead, which on most Epsons is part of the printer. Using compatible cartridges can cause this problem much faster than the originals. Compatible cartridges can be considerably cheaper, but when you factor in the replacing of the printer more often, the saving isn't as much as it initially seems (though still a saving!).

Where I live, we have been given cardboard recycling bags but only in the last year so perhaps more councils will use them eventually.

Here in Leeds we can put cardboard in our green recycling bin! Pretty much everything recyclable can go in, except glass. Why not take it to your local waste transfer/recycling station (a.k.a. "the tip")?

The home waste facility is on the other side of town for me lol. It would be nice if they allowed us to put cardboard in a recycling bin. I was pondering about this and was thinking of giving the packaging away on freecycle or eBay, where all the buyer pays is postage :D. Ive also been looking at plastic recycling, but dont know wheres a reputable place

What is collected on the doorstep depends on what is financially viable - either the council can claw some money back (e.g. metal) or it forms a large proportion of domestic waste (e.g. newspaper).

Most councils will recycle thin white card in with paper recycling, but brown cardboard usually needs to go to the recycling centre - we have found a cardboard bin at the back of a local retail park in a much more convenient location than the dump. ;)

Hello all, I got some sort of a result. I went into cartridge world today to buy one black CWE-711 cartridge as they say they are
    • Guaranteed to save you money
    • Guaranteed to perform as good as the original or better
    • Guaranteed to help save the planet
    • Guaranteed-100% of your money back if you're not satisfied
I bought it for £3.50(or £12 for a multipack), however I get 15ml of ink instead of 8ml, I have a loyalty card where my fourth refill is free, my next refill I get 50% off and they have a recycling scheme as well. I dont know if they'll pay, but at least the cartridges are being reused!

I also emailed them about their customer service and was wondering about the loyalty scheme as well.Oh and I was confused about their recycling scheme as their site talks about school recycling, not individual recycling. This is their reply
    Hi,

Thank you for your feedback on the customer service, I am pleased that
    we have fulfilled your expectations.

We do collect old and used cartridges for recycling, this will avoid
    filling our environment with waste.

The loyalty card scheme is for 1 refilled cartridge only, but if you
bring us empty cartridges to recycle and if we can use them again, we
could give you free cartridges for your printer in exchange.

I hope I have answered your questions, please do not hesitate to contact
us if you require further information.

    Kind regards,
